This presentation will examine the pre- and post-crisis development of fiscal governance in Ireland.   Among the questions addressed: To what extent were the causes of the economic crisis fiscal in nature?  Were the austerity policies necessary to resolve the crisis?  What have been the particular challenges of fiscal governance in Ireland?  How well is the new fiscal framework equipped to support sustainable growth in the years ahead?

This seminar is the penultimate seminar in the 2016 Whitaker Ideas Forum.  Professor John McHale is Director of the Whitaker Institute and will be representing the Macroeconomics and Finance Research Cluster.
