Biography

Jane Sixsmith RGN, HV, BSc, MA., PhD is a Lecturer in Health Promotion in the Discipline of Health Promotion at NUI Galway appointed in 2000. She was awarded her PhD in 2006 from NUI Galway for a study entitled ‘An evaluation of mass media interventions to promote health’.

She previously completed twelve years professional registered nursing experience including community-based practice, which focused on aspects of community and public health. Prior to her appointment to a lectureship she worked as a researcher in the Discipline of Health Promotion. She is the Director of the MA/Postgraduate Diploma in Health Promotion programme, which is accredited by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). She is also the Director of the Health Promotion Outreach programmes. She has an active research profile contributing to regional, national and international research activities in communication and health literacy. She is currently the Director of the Health Promotion Research Centre, a WHO Collaborating Centre.
