Biography

Wellington is an agricultural and development economist with research interests in agricultural policy analysis and analyses exploring the nexus between the economics of agricultural technology adoption, agricultural productivity and farm household welfare.

Wellington studied Agricultural Economics at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He received an MA in Agriculture and Rural Development from the University of East Anglia, The United Kingdom and a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His doctoral research focused on how to improve the productivity and competitiveness of Nigeria domestic rice with emphasis on technology upgrade and upscale among smallholder rice farmers and processors in Nigeria. Before joining the Economics Discipline at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) as a Postdoctoral Researcher, he worked briefly with a World Bank-funded Community and Social Development Project in Nigeria. He also worked with a development management training organization in Nigeria where he was a program manager for almost two years providing bespoke capacity building services for staffs of state and local government parastatals and other multilateral donor-funded institutions in Nigeria. He has just completed a research survey on “Employment Generation along Beef Value Chain in Nigeria” based on a research grant from the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC).

Wellington was a visiting scholar for two semesters in 2018 at the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics, Michigan State University (MSU), USA under the USAID-funded Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Project (NAPP).

Wellington's current research interests include Agricultural Policy Analysis; Agricultural Productivity and Farm Performance Analysis; Agricultural Technology Adoption; Economics of Farm Animal Welfare; Farm Household Analysis, Consumption and Poverty Analysis
