Whitaker PhD Forum
May 24 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
Location: Room G010 in the Hardiman Research Building, James Hardiman Library Galway Ireland
Organised by: Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change, NUI Galway
On Wednesday, 24th May, the Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change NUI Galway will host its second annual PhD forum. The forum is a one-day event for PhD students, and will take place in the Hardiman Research Building.
The goals of the forum are to provide PhD students with a day to interact with each other, to gain helpful advice to support their PhD process, and to celebrate their research.
The day will facilitate PhD students by providing guidance and an opportunity to discuss queries from first year through to Viva, and beyond. Building on the success of the 2016 event, students at all stages of the PhD will have an opportunity to meet and interact with other PhD students, to gain advice from PhD supervisors and other University colleagues, to share their PhD experiences, and to get suggestions and ideas to support their research.
This is a full day event. In the morning, PhD students will interact with each other to discuss their experiences of the PhD process. PhD students will receive coaching in managing their personal PhD experience. An additional session will feature advice on research funding and funding opportunities. In the afternoon, there will be a special session on PhD regulations and the PhD Viva, in addition to advice from a Viva examiner, and a panel Q&A addressing PhD candidates’ queries. Then, there will be a session on producing output from the PhD. The day will also include a poster display of PhD research in the Hardiman Foyer.
This is a free event and open to all PhD students. Coffee and lunch will be provided. Students attending will also receive a pack with an overview of online resources available to PhD students, a flowchart outlining the process for PhD submission, and a helpful Viva guide, as well as other resources.
