On Wednesday, 24th May, the Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change NUI Galway hosted its second annual PhD forum.  The forum is a one-day event for PhD students, and took place in the Hardiman Research Building.

The goals of the forum are to provide PhD students with a day to interact with each other, to gain helpful advice to support their PhD process, and to celebrate their research.

The aim of the day is to facilitate PhD students by providing guidance and an opportunity to discuss queries from first year through to Viva, and beyond.  Building on the success of the 2016 event, students at all stages of the PhD will have an opportunity to meet and interact with other PhD students, to gain advice from PhD supervisors and other University colleagues, to share their PhD experiences, and to get suggestions and ideas to support their research.

This was a full day event.  In the morning, PhD students interacted with each other to discuss their experiences of the PhD process.  PhD students received coaching in managing their personal PhD experience. An additional session featured advice on research funding and funding opportunities. In the afternoon, there was a special session on PhD regulations and the PhD Viva, in addition to advice from a Viva examiner, and a panel Q&A addressing PhD candidates’ queries.  Then, there was a session on producing output from the PhD.  The day also included a poster display of PhD research in the Hardiman Foyer.

The agenda for the day is available here.
