Event Navigation

This paper investigates the extent to which firms cross company boundaries for knowledge-intensive service activities (KISAs). The empirical analysis uses quantitative and qualitative data of the Irish software sector to research the willingness of companies to access core activities externally and to outsource innovation. It is found that companies will retain their core activities
in-house and co-ordinate with other firms, particularly customers, for innovation on an informal level. The paper reveals the international as well as national scale of external linkages due to the presence of foreign direct investment. It also analyses the extent of linkages between the public sector and Irish software firms and shows that these linkages are underdeveloped.
