Exploiting the Economics of Business Analytics
Bill Schmarzo, CTO, IoT & Analytics, Hitachi Vantara

Bill is Honorary Professor of the MSc. Business Analytics programme at J.E.Cairnes School of Business and Economics, NUI Galway. As Hitachi Vantara CTO, Bill will guide the technology strategy for IoT and Analytics. With his breadth of experience delivering advanced analytics solutions, Bill brings a balanced approach regarding data and analytic capabilities that drive business and operational outcomes. Bill will drive Hitachi Vantara’s “co-creation” efforts with select customers to leverage IoT and analytics to power digital business transformations. He is author of “Big Data: Understanding How Data Powers Big Business” and “Big Data MBA: Driving Business Strategies with Data Science”. He is a University of San Francisco School of Management Executive Fellow where he teaches the “Big Data MBA” course.

 

 

A Data-view of the Data Science Process
Professor Mathieu d’Aquin, Insight | Centre for Data Analytics, NUI Galway

Mathieu is a Professor (established chair) of data analytics at NUI Galway. He was previously, until 2017, senior research fellow at the Knowledge Media Institute of The Open University, UK, where he was head of the Data Science Group. He obtained his PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Nancy, France, in 2005. His research focus ranges from fundamental aspects knowledge representation, ontology engineering, the semantic web and knowledge graphs, to their applications to large-scale data and knowledge management, the Internet of Things, and data science processes. He has applied his research results in a range of domains, including medicine, education, smart cities, digital humanities and personal privacy management.
