The BMW Regional Assembly and the Centre for Innovation and Structural Change at NUI Galway are hosting a Conference on Regional Innovation on Friday 04 November 2011.
Title: Regional Innovation: A Catalyst for Sustainable Economic Growth in the BMW Region

This event will be of great interest to industry, state agencies and regional organisations, in particular those based in the Boarder, Midland and Western regions of Ireland.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Gerhard Fuchs, University of Stuttgart, Germany. Dr. Fuchs works at the University of Stuttgart (Department of Social Sciences). Prior to this, he acted as a Deputy Director of the Department Technology, Organization and Work at the Centre for Technology Assessment in Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart. His research interests concentrate on the study of innovation especially in the fields of New Information and Communication Technologies, Regional Innovation Systems and the development of new industries (e.g. ICT, Biotechnology and Renewable Energies). Dr. Fuchs has worked at New School for Social Research (New York), the University of Munich and was a Visiting Associate Professor at Northwestern University (USA) for two years before joining the Max-Planck-Institute in Cologne. During his distinguished career he has worked as an expert for the European Commission, the State Government of Baden-Württemberg as well as a number of different regional authorities.
The Conference also features addresses from the BMW Regional Assembly, NUI Galway and Mr. Peter Reilly, Director of Research and Development at Valeo Vision Systems, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of automotive vision systems, which has a base in Tuam, Co. Galway.
The will be an expert panel discussion on the topic: Do Regional Innovation Systems contribute to Sustainable Economic Growth? chaired by Dr. James Cunningham, Director, Centre for Innovation and Structural Change, NUI Galway, and featuring:
