Event Navigation

Andrew Burton-Jones is a Professor of Business Information Systems at the UQ Business School, University of Queensland. Andrew conducts research on how organizations can use information systems more effectively, how to improve systems analysis and design methods, and how to improve theories and methods in the IS discipline. Over the last decade, much of his work has focused on the digital transformation of healthcare. He is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems, Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly.

Andrew will give this talk partly as his role as Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly and partly as a regular researcher trying to figure out his own research program. In the section of the talk on MIS Quarterly, Andrew will reflect on our trajectory over recent years, his vision and priorities during his term (2021-2023), and engage in discussions about the status of the journal and any insights the audience has for improving it. In the section on his own research, he will describe my research on information systems as representations, both the overall research program and some specific studies. Andrew will describe why he thinks the representational perspective has some potential and how some of its weaknesses might be addressed.
