How to Publish in Top Academic Journals: New Seminar Series

We look forward to welcoming you to one of these upcoming seminars.

Each seminar features a senior editor from a highly-ranked Business/ Economics academic journal, with a chaired discussion and Q&A session. Refreshments provided to facilitate networking and informal discussion.

Aims:
• To assist colleagues across the Whitaker Institute and JE Cairnes School of Business and Economics to gain insight into publication strategies and techniques, directly from those who edit top journals in the field.
• To align with School accreditation aims, and NUIG’s Vision 2020 goals of: ‘publishing in high-impact journals’ and enhancing the ‘quality, impact and international awareness’ of our research.
• To complement existing discipline-level seminars and research mentoring activities.
• To expose early career researchers and Phd students to international best practice in publication strategies

Details:
• Both US and European journals represented, with a focus on 3*/4* and FT50
• Speakers encouraged to address specific themes [e.g. Methodology/ theory use/ Revise & resubmit strategies/ Writing styles/ Selecting a journal/ Collaborative publishing &c] along with providing general advice
• Speakers are advised that the audience is likely to be multi-disciplinary and to address comments accordingly
• To reduce costs: Heads of disciplines are asked to let us know when speakers with journal editorial positions are coming to NUIG as part of disciplinary seminar series, and to schedule additional time during their visit
• Additionally, journal editors to be invited as stand-alone seminars: we will rotate through the disciplines to ensure broad representation.
• Seminars typically 1 hour long. Some seminars may take the form of a workshop
• For each visitor: speaker proposer is responsible for hosting the guest, and liaising with the School (via Kate K) on the details
• Future and previous events posted to Whitaker website and updated regularly

Series is kindly hosted by Whitaker Institute and supported by the JE Cairnes School of Business & Economics
