Publishing from qualitative research studies can be difficult, especially in the more prestigious North American journals. In this seminar, I want to discuss some of the common problems that qualitative researchers encounter when trying to get published in high quality journals and some of the strategies and tactics that maybe important in gaining access to such journals. Using two examples from my own research (one published, one under revision), I want to illustrate some of these processes and share some of the pain and pleasure involved in responding to reviewersÂ’ comments and getting to publication. In particular, I will talk about the importance of explaining your methodological position and of adequate theorisation.
Penny Dick (BA, MSc, PhD, C.Psychol.) is a Reader in Critical Organizational Psychology at Sheffield University Management School. Her work is characterised by a social constructionist and discursive approach which she has applied to areas such as family friendly practices, the diffusion of HR practices across MNCs, and occupational identity, power and resistance. She has published in journals such as the Journal of Organizational Behavior, the Journal of Management Studies, Work, Employment & Society, Human Relations and the Journal of Occupational & Organizational Psychology.
