4th National Social Marketing Conference entitled Behaviour Change, Social Change and Societal Change, in association with the Whitaker Institute at NUI Galway.

It brings together two renowned behaviour change experts, Professor Rebekah Russell-Bennett from Australia and Matthew Wood, Brighton University, UK, along with 4 Irish showcases, to demonstrate Behaviour Change, Social Change & Societal Change.

This conference – “about listening to and learning with the people we want to work with, whether we term them clients, target groups or citizens – is the core of behaviour, social & societal change. Values lie at the heart of this endeavour and invites us to work together to understand each other as ‘feelers’, ‘thinkers’ and ‘doers’. It also requires us to cut across the traditional government, non-profit and commercial sectors and empower and energise people to become the authors of their own fate, whilst simultaneously encouraging contextual change that will help them to do so. Only in this way, will the individual and collective effort create significant and lasting change. Given the problems now facing the world, never has this been a more important task”[i].

Keynote speakers:

Professor Rebekah Russell-Bennett, Strathclyde University/Queensland University of Technology
Rebekah is a Professor at the University of Strathclyde however she usually works at the QUT Business School, Queensland University of Technology Australia. She is the National President of the Australian Association for Social Marketing and has worked with a variety of social marketing organisations in Australia including Queensland Transport, Australian Breastfeeding Association, Australian Red Cross Blood Donation Service and Queensland Health. Rebekah has published in international journals such as European journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Services Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Brand Management and the Australasian Marketing Journal.

Matthew Wood, Brighton University, UK
Matthew is Principal Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Brighton where he is Head of the Marketing Subject Group and Course Leader for the Postgraduate Certificate in Social Marketing. He has an MBA, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law and a first degree in Sociology. Matthew has extensive commercial market research experience and before academia was an account manager for TNS. He continues to work as a consultant, qualitative researcher and trainer. He is an associate of leading social marketing agencies The Campaign Company and Brilliant Futures.
