The colleague and widow of the influential historian CLR James, Selma James is described as “iconic” and “one of the key political thinkers and activists of our times”. She is widely acknowledged for her theoretical and organisational contributions, and particularly to the grassroots movement internationally. Her recently published anthology, Sex, Race and Class – The Perspective of Winning, A Selection of Writings 1952-2011 has been described as “an intellectual tour de force’ (Cary Gee, Tribune). An inspirational speaker, her perspective and insights are described as topical, enriching and thought-provoking by packed audiences. Students comment that her presentations are directly relevant to their areas of study.
