Forum on Agile Software Development

What is the event?
The event will focus on project management of large scale agile projects and in particular project portfolios. This is the latest in a series of fora for companies practising Agile and Lean methods to come together and share experiences.

Why should I attend?
Drawn from an extensive research study across eight organisations, attendees will learn about (1) the challenges faced by organisations in relation to IT project portfolio management, and (2) practices for constructing a portfolio of controls and managing control tensions. Ample opportunity will be provided for discussion amongst participants. Through a structured approach the forum provides an opportunity for attendees to learn from one another’s experiences and gain an increased awareness of problems and solutions from peers.

What is the format of the event?
We will use a combination of guided discussions and open format to foster communication and collaboration among participants. The main event will be followed by a complimentary lunch, where participants will have an opportunity to mingle and network.

About the Presenters
Deirdre Giblin is a manager with Ericsson with over 9 years’ experience in both project and line management. She has led teams of varying size and complex programs of work, delivering projects to multiple stakeholders and large Telecom operators. Her current roles involves the line management of 8 Development teams working in an agile environment delivering multiple features for Ericsson Network Management System.

Dr. Orla O’Dwyer and Roger Sweetman are researchers with the Lero software engineering research center and Whitaker Institute at NUI Galway, Ireland. Their research focuses on various aspects of project portfolio management including the challenges organisations face managing IS project portfolios, the controls used to manage project portfolios and the tensions that arise between controls used at different levels of the organisation. Orla and Roger have worked with a number of organisations to date on their portfolio initiatives.
