Dr Jasper Kenter has a broad research interest covering ecological and environmental economics, ecosystem services (particularly cultural services), environmental psychology, ethics, conservation, sustainable development, and environment-spirituality links. He has a PhD in Ecological Economics (Aberdeen) and a BSc (Hons) in Conservation (Aberystwyth), and is a PMI Certified Associate in Project Management.

Dr. Kenter’s main research focus has been on deliberative and participatory approaches to valuing ecosystem services, using both monetary and non-monetary tools.  He lead the social science group within the Laurence Mee Centre for Society and the Sea, which brings together social and natural scientists to better understand marine and coastal social-ecological systems, and manage them more sustainably. Previously he worked at the University of Aberdeen as PI and project manager for the UK National Ecosystem Assessment follow-on project on Shared, Plural and Cultural Values of ecosystems. He is an honorary fellow at the University of Edinburgh, visiting lecturer at the University of Leicester and adjuct lecturer at the University of New England (Australia).  He is also a board member of the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE).

For his ongoing cross-disciplinary research in the Solomon Islands on environmental values, he has received prizes from ESEE, the Society for Conservation Biology and the Geographic Field Group.

Before moving to the UK, he worked as an environmental campaigner in the Netherlands, Iceland and elsewhere.
