We live in an age of algorithm-assisted decision-making. This is true in both public and private spheres. This seminar reports from our first interdisciplinary workshop on the phenomenon of algorithmic governance, to be hosted in March 2016, and outlines a proposed research agenda for this field.
This seminar is one of a series of seminars in the 2016 Whitaker Ideas Forum. The speakers will be representing the Technology & Governance Research Cluster.
Dr John Danaher
John Danaher is a lecturer in the Law School. He holds a BCL from University College Cork (2006); an LLM from Trinity College Dublin (2007); and a PhD from University College Cork (2011). His research interests lie, broadly, in the areas of philosophy of law and emerging technologies and law. In the past, he has published on human enhancement, brain-based lie detection, the philosophy of punishment and artificial intelligence.
Dr Rónán Kennedy
Rónán Kennedy is a lecturer in the Law School. He holds a degree in commerce and a higher diploma in systems analysis from University College Galway, an LL.B. with first class honours from the National University of Ireland, Galway, an LL.M. from New York University and a Ph.D. from University College London. He explores how law and information and communications technology influence each other, trying to see through the hype and understand the real impacts. The principal focus of his research is the use of ICT for environmental regulation.
