Writers’ Retreat for Staff

This retreat will be aimed at creating quiet dedicated writing time in a  supportive environment. You are encouraged to attend the retreat with a focussed writing goal in mind – either starting or progressing a piece of work with a clear publication target.

The retreat is open to those who wish to stay at the hotel, and also to those who wish just to attend as day participants. There is no cost for day attendance, and the hotel offers many spots for quiet working. We will also have a dedicated writing room available to us for the three days. You may wish to maximise your writing time by making the retreat residential, which would allow you to create a private working space in your room. The hotel are offering us a reduced rate of €80/night bed and breakfast. This cost would be borne by yourself, though you may be able to get support from your discipline or your triennial funding.

The Whitaker Institute arranges a separate retreat for PhD students which is tailored to their needs, so this retreat is for staff only.

Dates: Monday 1 December to Wednesday 3 December
Location: Connemara Coast Hotel
Costs: No costs for day participation. Reduced rates of €80 B&B/night have been agreed with the Connemara Coast.

This our third retreat and feedback from previous years is that colleagues find the retreat extremely helpful in moving advancing their writing for publication.
