Professor Kevin Leyden says Galway City should be made more ’walkable’ and pedestrian-friendly

NUI Galway hosted a Galway 2040 Infrastructure and Environment Seminar on 27th September to discuss the challenge of creating and managing a sustainable infrastructure to meet the needs of Galway in 2040.  Prof Kevin Leyden, of the Whitaker Institute, said “One goal for 2040 could be let’s make Galway city the most walkable city in Ireland.” Leyden stressed the importance of improving street design for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users, and reducing the impact of vehicles on residential streets with the goal of having 85% of all trips on foot, cycle or public transport by 2040.  For further information read the Galway Independent’s article and the piece in the Irish Independent.

Galway 2040 is a community initiative to create a vision for the future of Galway city and its environs.
