New Economic Baseline Study and visualisation tool for Galway City & County

The Whitaker Institute has produced a new industrial baseline study for Galway to support the development of an economic plan for the city and county along with an accompanying website: www.galwaydashboard.ie. The study was launched on 21st July in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, and offers a snapshot of Galway across a broad spectrum of measures including demographics, enterprise, and the environment, and outlines strengths, opportunities, and recommendations for the continuing economic development of the area across nine industrial sectors.

The report finds opportunities for growth across all sectors examined – the creative industries, the marine, medtech, ICT, food, tourism, agriculture, education and retail. It also highlights a number of assets in Galway city and county which could contribute to the future development of the region, including local third level colleges, public research organisations and Galway’s extremely successful medical device sector and flourishing ICT industry.

The Galway Dashboard website was designed and developed by David Kelly, Research Technologist at the Whitaker Institute, in consultation with staff from Galway City and Galway County Councils.
