Principal investigators (PIs) are the lead researchers charged with delivery of research programmes. As research systems have evolved, PI responsibilities have grown substantially beyond traditional scientific avenues. Principal investigators are the linchpin for transformation, shaping research avenues, articulating actors within programmes, and bridging academia and industry. This seminar will focus on the barriers, managerial challenges and motivations of scientists as principal investigators of large scale publicly funded research projects based on a studies of Irish PIs in science, engineering and technology through the creation of a national dataset. The seminar will also focus on utilization of international datasets to study the economic impact of entrepreneur universities in the UK.
