Thomas J. Cooke is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Connecticut where he has directed both the Center for Population Research and the Urban Studies Program. He is currently a US Fulbright Scholar in the Department of Demography at the University of Groningen and Editor of Urban Geography. With a broad interest in the dynamics of spatial mobility, his research has been primarily focused on understanding the dynamics of family migration decision-making and its economic consequences for marital partners. His current research is focused on the impacts of union dissolution on migration, the long-term decline in US migration rates, and the suburbanization of poverty
