Article highlights growing demand for students with diverse skills suited for the modern economy

Dr Srinivasan Raghavendran of the Macroeconomics and Finance research cluster published an article on 7 September in The Deccan Herald, titled ‘Look beyond the engineering field‘.

In the financial sector, there is a growing demand for students with diverse skill set, such as economics, analytics, and computing.

In it, Dr Raghavendran explores how the modern economy is a network of multiple markets that connects individuals, small businesses, banks, corporations and governments. He notes that understanding the architecture of the network and how feedbacks operate among these entities has become an imperative for businesses. Dr Raghavendran argues that students should look to develop an interdisciplinary skill-set suited for the modern economy, such as interdisciplinary programmes that deal with the interface between economics and finance.
