Statistical Modelling for Business and Management

June 28, 2010 @ 9:00 am

Organised by: Professor Luiz Moutinho, University of Glasgow Business School & Dr. Graeme Hutcheson, University of Manchester

Event Navigation

This workshop concentrates on generalised linear models, as these provide a method for dealing with a large proportion of research questions typically posed by academic researchers. Methods for the analysis of continuous and categorical data (ordered and unordered) are discussed along with sessions on model selection, diagnostics and model improvements. All sessions are supported with computer exercises on management data sets. The open-source statistical software package R will be used throughout the course; copies of which are provided for each participant. Further information about R and its graphical user-interface can be found on the web at www.Rcommander.com. All data sets provided can also be read by SPSS.

All lecture notes, data sets, exercises and additional readings will be made available on-line a couple of weeks before the course starts. This is to help participants familiarise themselves with the course and software and prepare any questions.

The workshop does not assume any advanced statistical knowledge, although a basic grasp of correlation and p-values is assumed. The workshop is aimed at PhD students and post-doctoral researchers. Although the course is primarily aimed at business and management students, the techniques covered are general and apply to a number of disciplines.

Please find below the course outline, which provides further information on the format and expected outcomes of the course.
